Dayton Society of the Archaeological Institute of America In 2009, SunWatch started the process to begin a Dayton Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA), North America's oldest and largest organization devoted to the world of archaeology. The local Society is now in formation and additional members are needed to attain permanent status. What is the Archaeological Institute of America? With more than 200,000 members and subscribers whose backgrounds range from that of professional archaeologists to students, to those simply interested in archaeology, the AIA works to promote a vivid and informed public interest in the cultures and civilizations of the past, supports archaeological research, fosters the sound professional practice of archaeology, advocates the preservation of the world's archaeological heritage, and represents the discipline in the wider world. How does having a Dayton Society benefit SunWatch and the Dayton community? In addition to individual benefits of membership, the creation of a local Society brings tangible benefits to the Dayton area. AIA Societies receive two or three nationally known speakers from the AIA’s traveling lecture program each year. Some levels of membership include a subscription to Archaeology Magazine. How can I learn more about AIA? For more information about AIA, or to complete membership information online, click here. Click here to download a printable membership brochure. Be sure to write “DAYTON” in the space for the 3-digit society code. Once the local Society has attained permanent status, a code will be assigned. |
