Childrens tour

Fort Ancient provides an ideal location to study Ohio prehistory, and currently offers 7 programs to help students explore American Indian history, heritage and culture, as well as understand principles of archaeology and anthropology. Each program is designed to complement classroom and home school curriculum guidelines and Ohio Academic Testing standards.

For most tours, groups should allow 45 minutes to 1 hour (grades K – 2) and 1 ½ hours (grades 3+). Please note that parents/chaperones will be asked to assist students with scavenger hunts through the museum, where applicable. Some programs may vary, based on the weather; alternative programs will be made available in cases of inclement weather.

Tours, Workshops and Programs

Childrens tour

For larger groups (over 40) a maximum of 6 parents/chaperones will be asked to assist students with scavenger hunts through the museum. It is best if parent helpers can arrive 40 minutes early for proper training. For grades 4 through 12 and groups larger than 40, the students will arrive for an orientation to Ohio Valley prehistory. After the orientation the group will be divided into two separate groups. One group (A) will be divided into three separate groups and go through each of the three areas of the museum and rotate positions every 12 minutes with scavenger hunts with the parent helpers. The second group (B) will then be divided into three groups and participate in three specific activities; spear throwing, double ball and hands on area in the classroom, with parent helpers. After 36 minutes the groups will switch places. The students in the exhibit area would then have their turn doing the hands on activities and the children doing the hands on activities would then go through the museum.

Tour fees:
School groups: $5.00 per student, $5.00 per adult chaperone, free admission for parent helpers who assist with the school program.

Adult groups and senior groups: $5.00 per adult.
